Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose

Every time I think about what currently motivates me I come back to the Daniel Pink book Drive: Daniel Pink’s Drive

My personal motivations for working, and preferences on how to work are:

  • Learning every day
  • Working with smart people, who discuss and debate approaches
  • Knowing the goal of the company I work in, and how I can push that forward
  • Not getting bogged down in reporting
  • Having accountability and sharing that as low as possible down the org
  • Being challenged

I think Daniel Pink has done a great job discussing and defining motivation in the knowledge economy, there is a nice RSA animation covering a summary of his book here: RSA animate summary of Drive
